Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) | Certified Safety Professional (CSP) | 15+ Years ESH Experience | 3+ Years Applied AI Expertise

Phil Clark is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional with over 15 years of hands-on experience in environment, safety, and health (ESH). At the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, he has been involved as the safety point of contact across hydrogen systems, battery abuse testing, energy storage system setup, and flow cell battery onboarding—while providing industrial hygiene oversight for hydrogen fuel cell catalyst development and battery electrolyte development. This comprehensive experience in both safety engineering and industrial hygiene has given him unique insight into managing complex risks in emerging energy technologies.

Over the past three years, Phil has channeled this field-tested expertise into the world of applied artificial intelligence, discovering how AI can streamline compliance, enhance decision-making, and improve safety outcomes. Through his work as a solopreneur, he's built training programs and tools that make AI approachable and practical for the ESH community—bridging the gap between traditional safety practices and cutting-edge technology.

At UpSkillESH.com, Phil combines his real-world ESH expertise with practical AI knowledge to deliver engaging, actionable training. Whether you're new to AI or looking to integrate it into your daily safety practices, his mission is simple: to help you upskill with confidence and lead with clarity.

The making of a reformed bureaucrat

2022

Omitz is finally born! Taking inspiration from Strunk and White's classic Elements of Style, regulations will never be the same after we're done with them.

2016

H2 @ Scale...Toyota Mirai...all of a sudden, things begin to pick up speed in the hydrogen world.

2012

I landed my dream job working with researchers advance renewably generated hydrogen in the Department of Energy who were building the future of energy.

2011

Started my disdain for wordy regulations early in my career. I jumped into the app craze and started an auditing company to help people conduct field audits.

2008

First job out of graduate school. Amazing experience (I was the industrial hygienist for the Navy SEALs on the West Coast and got to wear body armor!).

The Omitz mission:

To make advanced energy safety easier to learn, easier to apply, and easier to trust.
